The Functional Controllers in Sweden were formed in June 1993. The initiative was taken by, among others, the ventilation administrator at the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning who considered that an organization was needed that interpreted and coordinated the “Regulation on Functional Control of Ventilation Systems (SFS 1991:1273) for all the executives who would carry out the work. FunkiS was used from the beginning as the association’s working name and is today well-established and has approximately 1200 members. Membership is personal and can be acquired by anyone who is authorized to carry out OVK or is a municipal administrator of OVK (Mandatory Ventilation Control), as well as Certified Adjusters. FunkiS is a non-profit association. The activities are financed by members’ fees and symposium fees. The work is focused on interpreting the statute and informing members about administrative, technical, ethical and legal aspects, as well as providing the concrete instructions that the interpretation entails.
